Projected capacitive touch screens/software offered

MANHASSET, NY -- Advanced projected capacitive touch screens and software are becoming available from Zytronic and Dawar.

Zytronic (Blaydon on Tyne, UK) has introduced the first in a series of new software drivers for system designers with its range of PCT touch sensors and touch controller products.

Meanwhile, Dawar (Pittsburgh, PA) has introduced new multi-touch PCT screens for all-glass solutions in medical, instrumentation and industrial applications.

Zytronic’s PCT-based touch sensor products use a matrix of 10-micron diameter capacitors embedded into a laminated substrate, which can then be placed behind a protective overlay which can be over 10 mm in thickness. As the active element of the sensor is not on the outer surface of the screen, it avoids exposure to the environment and potential wear and tear or deliberate damage that can impair the long term operation of most other touch technologies.

The improved drivers’ graphical user interface features a “dashboard” style for basic users, plus an expert mode that allows access to filters and settings for more advanced users.

Designed to work with ZXY100 touch controller series, the Zytronic drivers will support the Linux Microsoft Windows CE operating systems.

“We’ve made the touch controller output protocol or API available for a number of years, but by widening this to include the software driver source code, it means that engineers can create touch interfaces to suit their specific requirements - putting a greater degree of control into their hands,” said Ian Crosby, Sales & Marketing Director for Zytronic, in a statement.

Dawar’s PCT system provides optics with 90 percent light transmission, clarity of ? 97 percent and its rugged all-glass construction delivers surface durability of ? 9H pencil hardness.

“Dawar’s U.S.-based manufacturing and application engineering support offers customers more economical upfront design and NRE costs as well as lower minimum-order quantities for both standard and custom solutions,” said Elizabeth Spann, Product Manager, in a statement.

The new PCT screens are available in a range of standard sizes from 4.3-in. to 24-in. diagonal for controller board solutions and 4.3-in. to 17-in. diagonal for Chip-on-Flex.

A range of Dawar controller boards, drivers, interface cables and other components are available to provide an array of standard products, as well as custom solutions.
