Lam opens second Austrian R&D lab

SAN FRANCISCO— Lam Research AG, the Austrian subsidiary of U.S.-based semiconductor capital equipment vendor Lam Research Corp., said Wednesday (May 9) it opened new R&D lab in Villach, Austria.

Lam (Fremont, Calif.) said the 2,460-square-foot facility doubles the site's R&D capacity and will be used to develop leading-edge technology for customers. The lab will accommodate wafer cleaning and metrology tools and is built to support next-generation 450-mm tools, Lam said.

Lam established Lam AG in 2008, after it acquired SEZ Group. Previously the group was an SEZ subsidiary. According to Jackie Seto, vice president and general manager of Lam Research Villach, the company has added more than 100 new jobs at the site since 2010.
