Report: SK Group mulls chip fab in Turkey

SAN FRANCISCO—SK Group, the South Korean conglomerate that last year bought a 21 percent stake in Hynix Semiconductor Inc., is mulling setting up a semiconductor fab in Turkey at the request of Turkish conglomerate Dogus Group, according to an English language report by South Korea's JoonAng Daily.

The report, which cites an anonymous source with SK, said no deal has been finalized. The report noted that Turkey has been looking to establish semiconductor manufacturing in the country since the 1980s but has not succeeded for various reasons.

SK Group and the Dogus Group signed an agreement late last month to invest $50 million each in a private equity firm to invest in various businesses ranging from communications to energy infrastructure, according to the report.
