MOSFET is in a hurry! Major IDM factories in Malaysia halt work, and the delivery period continues to extend. The third quarter will increase by 10%~2

Recently, Malaysia has implemented a tougher "Strengthening Action Control Order", and local IDM factories have been forced to suspend operations. It is reported that IDM has notified customers to extend the delivery period for at least 2 weeks, and the MOSFET supply gap will expand further and become the current terminal As one of the most lacking components, the industry expects that MOSFET prices in the third quarter are expected to rise by 10% to 20% due to the rush of materials and the rising cost of wafers.

Many MOSFET manufacturers are affected

Malaysia is a major production center for packaging and testing in the global semiconductor supply chain. More than 50 semiconductor factories have established local factories, including Intel, Infineon, STMicroelectronics, NXP, Texas Instruments, ON Semiconductor and other international IDM factories. The packaging and testing capacity accounts for about 13% of the global packaging and testing capacity.

Among them, power semiconductors such as MOSFETs or diodes produced by IDM factories in Europe and the United States in their own 6-inch and 8-inch wafer fabs are mostly completed in their own packaging and testing plants in Malaysia.

Affected by the indefinite extension of Malaysia's nationwide blockade measures, many major factories in Malaysia have completely shut down their factories.

ON Semiconductor recently announced that both the Seremban and ISMF factories have been closed, and they are also coordinating with the local government, hoping to include the factories in the list that can maintain 60% of the manpower production. As for the Amkor packaging and testing plant, it will maintain 60% of the manpower production. Emphasizing that the shutdown has greatly affected the company's manufacturing capacity, customers are also asked to pay attention to the letter and receive updated delivery dates, which shows that the delivery time has been continuously extended.

Semiconductor factories such as Infineon and ASE said that they can maintain operations, but the government requires employees to work remotely. The number of employees on the production line can only be 60% of the usual. Therefore, since the outbreak of the epidemic, the load has been reduced in recent months. , And now the same situation remains unchanged.

Production capacity is limited and delivery time continues to extend

Affected by production capacity, MOSFET has set off a wave of price increases in the first half of the year. Due to the accumulation of various demands, MOSFET orders this year have already been scheduled to the end of the year, and the delivery time is generally more than 26 weeks. In order to consolidate their own advantageous markets, some large IDM manufacturers use their limited production capacity to produce automotive, industrial control and other medium- and high-voltage MOSFET products, resulting in a gap in medium and low-voltage chips, with some delivery times of more than 10 months.

The outbreak in Malaysia has been heating up rapidly. Since June, management and control have been strengthened. Major factories can only maintain 60% of personnel production at most, and the supply of power components such as diodes and MOSFETs can begin to decline. At that time, major factories issued notices to customers for extension of delivery time. , The time frame is about 1 month.

This time the epidemic has become more severe. In addition to maintaining an indefinite lockdown, Malaysia has implemented an intensified movement control order, ordered the factory to shut down completely, and the output of IDM-related power components has been greatly reduced. Therefore, the customer was notified twice to extend the delivery period by more than 2 weeks. The delivery time is far away, and end customers can only look for alternative sources more actively.

The price goes up by another 10~20%

As early as mid-June, it was reported that Infineon was preparing a new round of product price increases, and MOSFETs would increase by 12%.

ON Semiconductor also issued a price increase notice two months ago, announcing the formal implementation of the price increase on July 10.

At present, the epidemic situation in Malaysia has not seen a drop in temperature. The delivery schedule of high, medium and low voltage MOSFETs has been forced to lengthen, and some customers are only short of a few components such as MOSFETs, and are willing to pay higher fees to purchase, plus foundry The rising cost has caused the overall MOSFET quotation to continue to rise and remain high. The industry expects that MOSFET will increase by at least another 10%-20% in the third quarter.
