Engineers love their gadgets, but apparently, they are not alone. A quick exploration of the Kickstarter crowdsourcing platform uncovers ideas that range from sublime to ridiculous—and demonstrates that people are lining up to take some of them from the drawing board to reality. We found almost a dozen gadget projects that are still live but fully funded or nearly funded. Are there any that you think are worth supporting?
By definition, gadgets, which can run the gamut from expensive to cheap, promise to make another device more useful or to solve some headache of daily life with an electronic innovation. We’ve handpicked some of the most popular ideas from Kickstarter, which range from completely pragmatic to seemingly silly. We passed over non-technical offerings, like the newest way to hold a cell phone or table. We focused on the items that come from engineers—and might be something an electronics OEM might want to make someday.
All of the projects were live and looking for additional support at publication—but also had a high likelihood of garnering full support if they hadn’t already. It seems that gadget love has spread across the world since we identified projects from many countries and continents. Some make popular gadgets do more, while others do something cool on their own. There’s something for everyone: a wearable, customizable camera, bike safety lights, exercise equipment, magnetic speakers, fidget spinners, toilet bowl night light.
