MediaTek February sales rise 20%

LONDON – MediaTek Inc. (Hsinchu, Taiwan), one of the largest fabless chip companies, has announced that its net sales for February 2012 totaled NT$6,230 million (about $211 million), up 20.8 percent from net sales of NT$5,158 (about $175 million) in January 2012.

Compared with February 2011 net sales of NT$4,533 (about $154 million) February 2012 sales are up 37.4 percent and the year to date sales for 2012 are lower than those for the same period in 2011 by 5.6 percent.

The strong sequential growth would appear to support the argument that the early Chinese lunar New Year holiday hurt sales in January but boosted sales in February.

The company expects to see more than 30 percent sequential growth in March, according to reports.
