SAN FRANCISCO—TMSC Solar Ltd., a wholly-owned solar module subsidiary of foundry giant Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Inc. (TSMC), said Thursday (March 15) it has received both Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) certifications for a range of its copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) photovoltaic (PV) modules.
TSMC Solar modules with nominal power of up to 130W are now listed on the California Energy Commission's list of compliant PV modules, the company said. TSMC Solar's CIGS series modules entered production this month, with customer shipments expected to begin in April, Taiwan Solar said.
"UL and IEC product certifications open the majority of the world's solar markets to TSMC Solar products," said Ying-Chen Chao, president of TSMC Solar, in a statement. "We are also making rapid progress in acquiring the individual market and special purpose certifications required to compete in solar markets worldwide."
TSMC Solar's CIGS PV modules are being produced at TSMC Solar's manufacturing facility in Taichung, Taiwan. The facility has received ISO 9001 quality management system certification.
