SMIC to collaborate with IBM on 28-nm

SAN FRANCISCO—Chinese chip foundry Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. (SMIC) said it signed an agreement last week with IBM Corp. to collaborate on 28-nm manufacturing technology.

SMIC (Shanghai) did not disclose how much it would pay IBM, other than to say the amount would have no material financial impact on the company.

SMIC said last week that it had begun development of 28-nm technology. SMIC previously licensed process technology from IBM at the 45- and 32-nm nodes.
